Harry Potter was one of the first major book series I ever read, and my first ever exposure to contemporary fantasy. Although I enjoyed the series immensely, I do have some questions…
(Please note that this post contains spoilers to all of the Harry Potter books. You have been warned.)
Why Did Fred and George Never See Peter Pettigrew?
No, really. Think about it.
Fred and George have the Mauradur’s Map for years, and Peter Pettigrew has been in the Weasley’s family for years, as stated when Ron says he inherited Scabbers from Percy.
So…if Harry sees Peter on the map…why don’t Fred or George see him? Is there some kind of magical cloaking doohickey on Peter where only Harry Potter can see him? Did the Weasley twins assume the map was malfunctioning? Was Peter’s location only unlocked when Harry touched the map? Are Fred and George simply astoundingly unobservant?
What Did Sirius Do Between Harry’s Third and Fourth Year?
The letters he sent Harry were carried by huge tropical birds, which made Harry think that Sirius was hiding in some very warm place.
Not that this is a plot hole, but…WHAT DID HE DO???
Build sandcastles? Collect shells? Make a Peter Pettigrew out of coconuts and then turn into Padfoot and chew it to pieces?
The possibilities are endless.
Did Sirius Ever Have a Love Interest?
Again, not a plot hole.
BUT.
In the flashback we get in Order of the Pheonix, he’s described in a flirtatious sort of way, making me think it’s possible he could have had a love interest at one point…
If so, when did it fall apart? When he was framed for the Potter’s murder? When he was an idiot in school? What kind of a person was she? Did he ever actually have a love interest?
(And no, that weird fanfic about Lily’s imaginary twin sister doesn’t count.)
What Does Draco Do?
Draco is…
Ahem.
Interesting.
Those of you who think he’s hot, do yourself a favor and go get some help.
But what did he do for the rest of his life? At the end of book seven we find out that he apparently got married and had a son, so I suppose that counts for something. Does he spend his free time skulking about and throwing darts at a photo of Lucius’ face? 🤨
Did Arnold Become the Potters’ Housepet?
In book six, Ginny buys a purple Pigmy Puff and names him Arnold.
I need to know…
When she and Harry get married, does Arnold come with? Does he like Harry? Does he not like Harry? Does Arnold “accidentally” get fed to the neighbor’s cat?
THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!
Why Did No One Strange Dumbledore
Seriously.
Why.
WHY.
He is cryptic to the point of almost killing Harry IN PRETTY MUCH EVERY BOOK.
*shakes fictional characters vigerously*
What Else?
